TL;DR: our status in Nerdfighteria is not determined by our political choice, religion, race, ethnicity, or sexual orientation.
Oh boy. As a nerdfighter, I can see when the proverbial shit is going to hit the fan. That shit, my friends, is going to be the upcoming election in the States.
It’s assumed that all of us Nerdfighters live by the DFTBA code: lower world suck by being awesome. Most of the time that can be done without going into what political party you support, what religion you practice or don’t practice, what’s the last thing you ate, or the type of shoes you happen to wear on your way to the movies. It’s in events that aim to stop bullying, to send relief aid to hurricane victims, in making sure that John puts more peanut butter on his face, and supporting cancer-hit families through TSWGO.
The fact that we’re looking at politics as both young and old Nerdfighters is a great thing. It’s amazing the amount of attention that is being given to this political race and I applaud all of you for going out there and planning on who you will vote for - especially since voter turnout is disgustingly low.
With that sad, your status in Nerdfighteria should NOT be determined by your political choice, religion, race, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. There are no prerequisites for being a Nerdfighter, and only one call to action: to lower world suck by being awesome. How you chose to lower world suck and what types of world suck you want to go after are all of your own choice.
